We are extremely saddened to share with you the news that Roger Snow (formerly a Deputy Head at St Hugh's) passed away recently. He and his late wife Marle taught at St Hugh’s for many years, Roger joined in 1965 and Marle followed him shortly afterwards.

Roger was Head of French and also inspired many a boy on the Rugby pitch, whilst Marle produced some outstanding Netball teams and also ran the Art department.  Apart from Roger’s French trips, they also took an annual ski trip for a number of years. They were also former Houseparents and Roger was also an invigilator in later years, in addition to helping run the alumni society.

In recent times, Roger has continued to keep in touch with the school, calling in to say hello and also to watch some fixtures on a Wednesday. He also brought his grandson Charlie along last summer, who was visiting from his home in Australia, to come and have a look around in order to share his and Marle's memories of St Hugh's, where they also paid a visit to the Year 8's Season Cafe. St Hugh's was so important to Roger and his fondness for the school was clear for all to see.

Details of the Roger's funeral are as follows:

Date: Friday 8 May 2026 at 1pm (British Summer Time)

Venue: South Oxfordshire Crematorium Chapel
Address: South Oxfordshire Memorial Park and Crematorium, Garford, Abingdon, OX13 5PA

Refreshments will follow in Bampton at the Morris Clown on the High Street afterwards and all are welcome.

The family have kindly requested that in lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Paul Snow Memorial Fund. Following the sad death of their son and former pupil, Paul in September 1989, a fund was established by Roger and Marle in his memory. From this fund, grants are made to former pupils of St Hugh's who, as they leave senior school, aim to spend a 'gap year' or similar period in voluntary work, who would otherwise find such a venture difficult to fund. Donations can therefore be made to the following:
